From the Ground Up: Foundations of an Embodied Yoga Practice

Learn the essentials of embodied yoga from the comfort of home with this 6-class online course. Perfect for beginners or those seeking a deeper, more functional practice, this series blends simple, fluid sequences with breath awareness to build strength, enhance balance, and connect you to your body’s innate wisdom. Discover a ‘felt sense’ in your yoga practice, gaining clarity about how movements feel in your body and how to adapt them to your range of motion and ability level. Beginning by establishing an awareness of gravity, the course takes you through standing, seated and resting poses, while always maintaining this strong connection to the earth and sense of ‘groundedness’.
By the end of the six classes, you will
  • understand how to connect to the ground and gravity to help you move with ease
  • gain clarity about your own body and how it feels in a range of simple movements
  • build a repertoire of movements and practices to help you maintain a healthy range of motion
  • gain strength and stability in key areas, and feel more confident in balances and more challenging postures
  • ease tired joints and muscles, and learn how to work with your breath and soft tissues to release stress
  • feel more connected to your body, breath and sense of self
Drawing on my training in Vinyasa yoga and myofascial anatomy, and my experience teaching in-person classes and courses, I’ve crafted a journey that starts with grounding through the feet and progresses to dynamic standing and spinal flows. By the end, you’ll have a sustainable personal practice rooted in connection, gravity, and sensation—tools to support you in daily life.
Class One: Feet and Balance
Learn about our sixth sense, proprioception, and why it’s so crucial to whole-body health. I’ll teach you simple exercises you can use to wake up your feet and connect to the ground each day, as well as how to feel centred and stable in balancing postures.
Class Two: Hip Strength and Mobility
Do you have lower back issues? It could be to do with your hips! Learn how to strengthen tissues and joints around your pelvis, while easing tension in the back of the body. This class will take you through a wide range of motion, building mobility and stability at the same time.
Class Three: Strong Back, Open Front
Release upper back tension and create a sense of spaciousness by strengthening the back line of your body. Connect to the deeper muscles of the back body and discover how to work with your fascia to maintain a healthy, easeful posture.
Class Four: Freedom of the Spine
Building on the strength you cultivated in the previous class, this playful practice focuses on fluid movements that work with the natural curves of the spine. Feel rejuvenated and confident to move your spine through its full range of motion.
Class Five: Hands, Arms and Shoulders
Unwind tight shoulders and release achy wrists with this functional class. Learn how to activate your hands and arms in postures like all fours and Downward Facing Dog to take the strain off your upper body, and find release with shoulder openers.
Class Six: Twists and Spirals
Play with dynamic movements like spirals, rolls and rotations to rejuvenate your spine and create space in the sides of your body. You’ll cultivate a deep awareness of your breath, and complete the series feeling calmer, more centred and uplifted.
